BAHAMA SHUTTER BLADE SYSTEM COMPUTER ANALYSIS

  • Specification Limits - 140 MPH Wind Loading
  • Three structural analyses of the blade systems were conducted for a 140 MPH wind loading with a 1.3 shape factor.
  • The allowable stress for 6005-T5 aluminum blades was 10,500 lbs/per sq. inch.

Analysis

  • A shutter configuration with a 24" blade span with no vertical support, had a 3.96 safety factor (2651 pounds/per sq. inch) in a standard spacing.
  • A shutter configuration with a 36" blade span with a mid length vertical support in a standard spacing, had a 2.1 safety factor (4906 pounds/ per sq. inch).
  • A shutter configuration with a 36" blade span with a mid length vertical support in a sea view spacing, had a 2.1 safety factor (4862 pounds/ per sq. inch).

Conclusion

The blade design up to a 24" span without a mid length vertical support and a 24" to 36" with a mid lenght vertical support exceed specification limits.
