Clearwater Classic Solar View Canopy Specifications

Part 1   General

1.1  Description of Work

A.  Work in this section includes fabrication and installation of a proprietary overhead canopy system consisting of extruded aluminum framing and retention of Lexan panels as manufactured by Awning Works  Inc.

B.  Design Considerations


1. Flashing of various configurations as required by the attachment design approach.
2. Determine post, beam, wall construction and blocking requirements
3. Site Specific Engineering per local codes
4. Direction of water drainage and method
5. Field verification of elevations, dimensions, existing structures, obstructions or materials.


1.2  Quality Assurance

A.  Products meeting these specifications as established by design, quality standards and manufacturing techniques developed by:

B.  If requested, supply manufacturer’s standard literature and specifications for canopies.

C.  When specified by contract; submit engineered shop drawings showing structural component locations/positions, material dimensions and details of construction and assembly

1.3  Field Measurement

A.  Confirm site dimensions prior to manufacturing

1.4  Performance Requirements

A.  Canopy must conform to local building codes.

B.  Determine if specific load requirements have been established for canopies and if stamped calculations are required for location in which canopy is installed.

1.5  Deliver, Storage, Handling

A.  Deliver and store all canopy components in protected areas defined by the customer or general contractor. Handle canopy products that minimize field touch-up.

2.2  Materials

A.  Structural Sub Framing, Proprietary retention profiles, Perimeter framing (fascia), bracing and diagnal support arms shall be extruded aluminum, minimum strength alloy 6063-T5, in profile and thickness as determined by the engineering requirements.

B.  Lexan paneling shall be the style, material and thicknesses as specified on the drawing. Panel sizing shall be as large as practical to maximize unobstructed view and minimize joints.

C.  All attachment hardware shall be rust resistant or stainless steel as specified, sealing (gasketed) screws shall be used for any panel retention purpose.

D.  Gasketing shall be as specified on the drawing.

E.  Caulking where required shall be 100% Silicone or Urethane Clear unless noted otherwise.

F.  Breathable and vent tapes shall be used to allow evaporation of potential condensation.


2.3  Finishes

A.  Standard options are mill finish, marine grade powder coat and automotive grade acrylic enamel., Factory ESP baked enamel, Anodized and Kynar 500 are available as optional finishes.

2.4  Fabrication


A.  All structural  framework connections shall be MIG or TIG welded as specified on the shop drawing.

B.  Mechanical connections shall be used for panel retention, frame section joining and support members. Locknuts shall be used exclusively.

C.  Frame sections shall be designed as large as practical for transporting and installation. Completed sections will be field assembled.

D.  Drainage: Water shall drain from covered surfaces to the front or outside edge of the canopy. Optional integral fascia gutter can be incorporated into the design and/or drainage directed to the rear for ground level discharge via one or more designated downspouts.


Part 3   Execution

3.1  Inspection

A.  Confirm that surrounding area is ready for the canopy installation.

B.  Installer shall confirm dimensions and elevations to be as shown on drawings provided by Awning Works Inc.

C.  Erection shall be performed by an approved installer and scheduled after all painting, concrete, masonry and roofing in the area is completed.


3.2  Installation

A.  Installation shall be in strict accordance with manufacturer’s shop drawings. Particular attention should be given to protecting the finish during handling and erection. Field touch up paint will be applied to any marred areas.


3.3  After installation, the work site and canopy will be left in a clean condition.
